And the craziness continues...

Well... It has been awhile, 5 months to be exact. Many things have changed. We bought a house. Moved in and started some remodeling. We moved into the house in September. Since then we have ripped out all carpeting and put in hard wood flooring. I started putting some drywall and pegboard into the laundry room. It is still a work in progress though. We also visited ikea and came home with a lovely load of boxes to build a home entertainment system that literally takes up a 12 ft wall. On a positive note there are no wires for any little hands to get a hold of. We still have a lot work to do. Our basement and garage are a maze. I am hoping to attack that in the next week and a half or so.

I am starting to look into the idea of becoming a minimalist. I know I have a long way to go but if you saw the amount of things we have it is just not right in some ways. I myself from pre-pregnancy- now have approximately 6-7 tubs of clothing and I would really like to just make it one for the opposite season. Starting this week, I am going to try and do one room at a time and clear out anything we don't use or need. I am also hoping to have our garage (Yay! no more on street parking) in order by the end of this week to be able to fit cars in before it starts to snow. Part of this is also from my husband being slightly OCD. He does not like a lot of anything or rather everything has to have its own place or it needs to be tossed which is true.

I have the intentions of posting before and after pictures to keep accountable for myself. The rooms that are going to be worked on:

  1. Hallway closet & bathroom
  2. Basement
  3. Garage
  4. Master bedroom
  5. 2nd bedroom
  6. Kitchen
  7. Nursery
This is the plan for now. I will update tomorrow on progress.

Hot Dog Chili Sauce

Ingredients:

1lb Ground Beef
3/4 cups diced onions
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground cloves
7 oz bottle of ketchup
1/2 tbs chili powder
1/2 tbs nutmeg
1/2 tbs sugar
1/2 tbs paprika
1/2 tbs black pepper
Flour

  1. Brown the ground beef and onions.
  2. Add spices and ketchup.
  3. Add 3 cups of water.
  4. Simmer about 1 hour.
  5. Taste and adjust spices. (I usually add more chili powder and paprika. Recommendation of my Mother-in-law)
  6. Scoop out about one cup of water and using a whisk add flour to thicken sauce to your liking and pour back in and stir.Repeat as many times as needed. I add about 3/4 cup of flour depending on how thick I want it.
  7. Let simmer for about 15-20 more minutes. I normally let cool and put in small containers to freeze. You can also double this recipe very easily.
Happy cooking!!!

Welcome to Toes in Sand!

I like to keep things simple and basic and easy as possible.

I got married in May of 2011. In June of 2012, my husband and I had our first son. So being a new mom and wife, I want to try projects, recipes and anything I can get my hands on.

My goal is to do various projects and post on whether they work or not. Some of the projects will be coming from ideas on Pinterest, magazines or anything I can come up with.

I am working on the decluttering and organization of our house. Mostly trying to simplify before we buy a house and move in the next few months if all goes well. So there might be some Before and After projects as well.

Excited to start some projects! :-)
